This circumpolar plant is often best spotted by looking for its tall red/brown flower shaft, since it grows in cool shady areas where snow persists into summer. Leaves can be eaten in salads or cooked. High in vitamin C. Traditional Inuit food source also favored by caribou, muskox, geese, hares and lemmings.
