A circumpolar lichen that grows on flat rocks, especially calcareous ones, such as limestone. Tends to thrive in areas with abundant wildlife due to the animal and bird droppings. Inuit hunters sometimes watch for these bursts of colour since it may indicate wildlife is abundant in the area.
