Can anyone contribute their photos and footage to Arctic Stock?
Absolutely. Our contributors range from talented amateurs to seasoned professionals. While we do vet images for things like image quality, lighting, composition and subject matter, we encourage photographers of all levels to submit their work. If you’re not sure whether your images will be accepted, we suggest uploading a small (5 to 10 image) sample first. See our Contributor Guidelines page for technical specifications and tips.
You say you offer moving and still images of the North. How do you define "North"?
We feature images depicting the Circumpolar Arctic. At the moment, most of them come from the territory of Nunavut, Canada, since that’s where we're based. However, we invite submissions from all Arctic regions, including Russia, Greenland, Finland and Alaska. While we know that many places that aren’t considered the Arctic can get very cold, like Winnipeg, Manitoba, we’re not accepting submissions depicting them. Similarly, we do not feature images of Antarctica.
I can’t find what I’m looking for. What now?
First, there are a couple of search-related tricks you can try. Keep your search broad, using only one term at a time. Use the shortest version of a term, for instance "ski" instead of "skiing", to ensure that you are picking up all its variants. Finally, try different terms that have similar meaning, like "boat", "ship", and "vessel".
If you still haven’t found what you’re looking for, contact us at info@arcticstock.ca. We may be able to find what you’re looking for. If not, we can discuss setting up a custom photo shoot.
What's your refund policy?
Since you have the opportunity to see the photo or video before you buy it, we don’t generally offer refunds. However, if there's a technical problem with the file, we’ll make it right by sending you a replacement file or giving you a full or partial refund, depending on the situation.
I can't find my purchased downloaded images on my computer. Where are they?
Downloads usually go to a download folder that has already been specified by your browser. Check that folder, or try searching your computer by the name of the clip or photo. If needed, download the file again from the "My Media" section of our site.
Do I need to credit Arctic Stock or the photographer/videographer when I use an image from Arctic Stock?
It depends on how you’re using it. Crediting is required in the following cases:
- The image is being used in an editorial context, where the content is newsworthy, like a news article, a documentary or a book. The credit should be formulated "[Name of photographer or videographer]/Arctic Stock ".
- The image is being used on merchandise. The credit should be: “"Image/Footage used under licence from Arctic Stock".
- The image is being used in a video production. The credit should be: “"Image/Footage used under licence from Arctic Stock".
In other situations, crediting is optional.
